Arunachal government prepared for monsoon challenges: CM Pema Khandu amid flash flood concerns
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed concern over the flash floods in Keyi Panyor district that have caused extensive damage and disruption, while assuring that the state government remains fully prepared to address monsoon-related challenges.
Speaking on the situation, the Chief Minister stated that the government had initiated preparedness measures well before the onset of the monsoon season. He said meetings were held with Deputy Commissioners of all 28 districts, followed by consultations with District Disaster Management Officers (DDMOs), to strengthen response mechanisms and ensure coordination across the state.
“We cannot control nature,” Khandu said, while emphasising the importance of preparedness and public cooperation during adverse weather conditions.
The Chief Minister noted that Arunachal Pradesh receives heavy rainfall during the monsoon period, which generally begins in April and continues until September, making disaster preparedness a critical priority.
He urged residents, particularly those living near river basins and downstream areas, to remain vigilant and comply with safety advisories issued by district administrations. Khandu advised vulnerable communities to relocate to relief camps established by Deputy Commissioners across various districts whenever necessary.
The state government continues to monitor the evolving weather situation and has reiterated its commitment to ensuring timely relief and safeguarding affected populations during the monsoon season.
