The Arunachal Pradesh government today distributed cash incentives worth Rs 2.49 crore to 411 athletes and para-athletes in recognition of their achievements at state, national, and international levels.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who handed over the incentives, said that so far the state has extended a total of Rs 7.1 crore to 940 athletes. Reiterating the government’s commitment to sports promotion, he said, “We are determined to create an ecosystem where our athletes can excel and bring greater glory to Arunachal Pradesh.”
On the occasion, the government launched the Chief Minister’s Athlete Coaching & Empowerment Scheme, a revamped version of the CM’s Meritorious Sportsperson Scholarship.

The new scheme will not only reward sporting excellence but also provide structured coaching, training, and holistic support to nurture talent.
The event, attended by Deputy CM Chowna Mein, MP Tapir Gao, Speaker Tesam Pongte, Education Minister Pasang D. Sona, Sports Minister Kento Jini, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, and Advisor Zingnu Namchoom, also saw prominent athlete Hillang Yajik Kabak Yano praising the state’s sustained efforts to support sportspersons.
