Arunachal govt on high alert as floods worsen; Home Minister assures full-scale rescue operations

Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung has said the state government is fully prepared to deal with the ongoing flood situation, with rescue and relief operations being carried out on a war footing across affected areas.

Speaking to India Today NE, Natung said the government is closely monitoring the evolving situation and has deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), state police and the district administration, to carry out rescue operations.

He said helicopters are being deployed with support from the Indian Air Force (IAF) to reach flood-hit and inaccessible areas, while the government is ensuring there is no shortage of food supplies or other essential commodities for affected residents.

"There will be no shortage of ration or essential items in the flood-affected areas of the state," Natung said.

Appealing to the public to exercise caution, the Home Minister urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during the peak monsoon season.

"I appeal to all to avoid movement during this peak monsoon period. The government is committed to extending full support to the people during this difficult time in our geographically vast northeastern state," he said.

The assurance comes as several parts of Arunachal Pradesh continue to face heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides, prompting intensified rescue and relief efforts by multiple agencies.
