Arunachal Home Minister Mama Natung Inaugurates badminton court, launches Project Abhaya
Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung on October 12 inaugurated a badminton court at the 4th India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) Headquarters in Jully, Itanagar, and launched Project Abhaya, a state initiative aimed at promoting child safety and raising awareness about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Director General of Police (DGP) S. D. Singh Jamwal, IPS, senior police officers and IRBn personnel.
Addressing the gathering, Natung emphasised the importance of physical fitness and well-being for security personnel, noting that maintaining good health is essential for carrying out their demanding duties. He said the new sports facility would provide jawans with a dedicated space to engage in physical activities during their off-duty hours and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The Home Minister also cautioned IRBn personnel against involvement in drugs or any other unlawful activities, stressing the need for discipline and responsible conduct among members of the force.
On the occasion, Project Abhaya was launched to strengthen child safety awareness and promote understanding of the provisions of the POCSO Act. Natung highlighted the importance of extending the initiative to schools, hostels and local communities to strengthen child protection mechanisms and help create a safer environment for children.
Speaking to the media, DGP S. D. Singh Jamwal said the badminton court had been established to support the fitness and well-being of police personnel, allowing them to engage in regular sporting activities during their off-duty periods.
The launch of Project Abhaya alongside the inauguration of the sports facility highlighted the state police's focus on both personnel welfare and community-oriented initiatives, particularly those aimed at improving awareness and protection of children.
