Arunachal: Itanagar MLA calls for preserving traditions alongside religion at church jubilee

Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso on November 19 emphasised the importance of preserving traditional values alongside religious practices. He said this while attending the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Ganga Baptist Church, where he praised the transformative impact of Christianity in the Nyishi community.

Speaking to India Today NE, he highlighted the transformative role of Christianity in the Nyishi community, particularly in reducing social issues like alcoholism and conflicts through the inculcation of religious values.

Kaso praised the church for fostering peace and unity, stating, "Our ancestors, especially from the Nyishi tribe, once engaged in conflicts and substance abuse. Today, we embrace peace, brotherhood, and coexistence with all tribes and communities." He also stressed the importance of showcasing traditional values, noting that cultural attire and practices continue to hold significance in programs like those of the NBC.

Addressing infrastructure concerns, the MLA announced that the retendering process for Package B of the Naharlagun Highway would proceed due to delays caused by the contractor. He assured residents that the Chief Minister is committed to ensuring progress on the project.

Kaso urged youth to stay away from drugs and alcohol, drive safely, and respect their families' aspirations. He also condemned the recent tragic incident in Seppa, where a man reportedly killed his daughter, wife, and others, calling for stringent legal action against the perpetrator.
