Arunachal: Man found dead under suspicious circumstances in Itanagar, probe ordered

A man was found dead under suspicious circumstances near a bus stop in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh on March 2. 


The deceased has been identified as Chungma Bagang, a resident of Holongi and a member of the family of Hawa Bagang, former president of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union. The body was reportedly discovered hanging at a bus stop, with both hands and legs tied with rope — circumstances that have raised serious suspicions of foul play.


According to police sources, the case was officially registered at Chimpu Police Station on March 2, 2026, at around 1:00 PM. The matter has been registered as Chimpu PS Case No. 14/26 under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The investigation has been entrusted to Sub-Inspector S.K. Jha, who has begun a detailed probe into the cause and circumstances surrounding the death.


Family members of the deceased have stated that police are cooperating fully and have assured them of a thorough investigation. They have called for swift justice and clarity regarding the circumstances that led to the tragic death.


Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Tumme Amo, IPS, confirmed that the investigation is progressing and assured the public that those responsible would be identified and brought to justice at the earliest. “The investigation is going on, and we are confident that the culprits will be arrested soon,” the senior officer stated.
