Arunachal: Man swept away by strong current near Bana bridge; search underway

A man identified as Kapong Yame, a resident of Bana Circle in Arunachal Pradesh's Bichom District, went missing on Monday afternoon after reportedly being swept away by a strong river current while fishing near the Bana Bridge.

The incident occurred around 3:30 pm, prompting an immediate response from local rescue teams. Search operations are still underway, but as of now, Yame has not been located.

Witnesses at the scene say the forceful water flow played a key role in the incident. In light of the situation, Sad Kalo Yame, Gram Panchayat Chairperson of the area, has urgently appealed to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) to temporarily stop or regulate water discharge from the nearby dam.

She stressed that such action is critical not only to assist current rescue operations but also to prevent similar incidents.

Local authorities are advising residents and visitors to stay away from riverbanks, especially during high water release periods, and have called for stricter safety measures around the area.
