Arunachal marks 79th I-Day with patriotic fervour, leaders call for unity and progress

Arunachal Pradesh marked the nation’s 79th Independence Day on Friday with celebrations across the state, highlighting both patriotic pride and developmental aspirations.

 

At the main state function in Indira Gandhi Park, Itanagar, Chief Minister Pema Khandu hoisted the national flag and called for public support in building a “Viksit Arunachal.”

 

In his address, he outlined major initiatives, including hydroelectric projects, road connectivity, the Vibrant Village Programme, and agricultural schemes aimed at uplifting farmers.

 

Taking a firm stance on geopolitical issues, Dobing Sonam, president of the All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation, condemned China’s repeated territorial claims over the state. He stressed that Arunachalees consider themselves deeply patriotic and proud to be Indian, dismissing any foreign claim over the region’s borders.

 

At Raj Bhavan, Governor Parnaik led the celebrations, hoisting the Tricolour and receiving a Guard of Honour from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. He paid tribute to freedom fighters, including Matmur Jamoh, Moje Riba, and Moji Riba, and urged citizens to uphold the “Nation First” spirit.

 

The Governor emphasised the importance of self-reliance, quality education, and dignity for all citizens, calling on people to contribute to a cleaner, stronger India. Awards for the ‘Swachh Ghar’ competition were presented to Raj Bhavan staff for exemplary cleanliness efforts, and sweets were distributed to schoolchildren and officials.

 

The celebrations saw participation from government officials, students, and community members, reflecting unity and commitment to the state’s growth and the nation’s progress.
