The Paklu Taipodia Classic National Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship concluded with surprising victories and inspiring performances. Madhumita Rath, a mother of a 10-year-old girl, emerged victorious in the women's category, while a 57-year-old man from Assam secured a medal in his division.
Rath, speaking exclusively to India Today NE, emphasised the importance of family support for women in bodybuilding. "After giving birth to my daughter ten years ago, I gained weight, which prompted me to join a gym. It turned into my passion," she said. Rath, who runs a women's fitness gym in Puri, Odisha, added, "I encourage women to exercise regularly for a healthy lifestyle."
Former Minister and Arunachal Olympic Association President Taba Tedir attended the event, urging participants to maintain fitness. Addressing the championship as Chief Guest, Tedir said, "Everyone dreams of winning a medal, but it's only possible with hard work and regular practice. Learn to compete at state, national, and international levels, and you can reach the world championship and even win an Olympic medal."
Tedir praised the event's organisation, noting the participation of over 400 athletes from across the country. He expressed optimism about Arunachal Pradesh's sporting potential, saying, "Our state government is emphasising five discipline games. We're targeting potential players and providing them with facilities and training. We hope our athletes can reach the Olympics and bring laurels to our state and people."
The championship, hosted by international bodybuilder Miss Paklu Taipodia, took place at the Art and Culture Community Hall in Naharlagun. It marked the first time Arunachal Pradesh has hosted such an event, showcasing the state's growing presence in the sporting world.
Former State Information Commissioner Gumjum Haider and Itanagar Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom also attended as guest of honour and special guest respectively.
