Arunachal, Nagaland MPs meet PM Modi over flood losses; seek early release of central aid

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Arunachal Pradesh MP Tapir Gao and other parliamentarians from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament and apprised him of the extensive damage caused by floods in the two northeastern states.

The MPs highlighted the loss of lives and widespread damage to homes, livestock, roads, bridges and other public infrastructure due to the floods. They also urged the Prime Minister to expedite the release of central assistance for relief, rehabilitation and restoration work.

Speaking after the meeting, Tapir Gao said a central team had already visited the flood-affected areas to assess the extent of the damage.

“The governments of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh have submitted their recommendations detailing the losses, including damage to property, livestock, roads and bridges, along with the central team’s assessment report,” Gao said.

He said the MPs requested the Prime Minister to ensure the early release of funds to help the affected states undertake relief and reconstruction work.

“We urged the Prime Minister to expedite the release of funds, and he has assured us that the matter will be resolved quickly,” the Arunachal Pradesh MP added.

The meeting comes amid widespread flood-related devastation across several northeastern states, including Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. Prime Minister Modi assured the delegation of all possible support from the Centre, the MPs said.
