Arunachal observes ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ with walk-in rally and film screening in capital

In a solemn commemoration of the Emergency imposed in 1975, Arunachal Pradesh observed Samvidhan Hatya Diwas with a series of impactful events in Itanagar. The day began with a mega Walk-in Rally led by Minister of Art and Culture, Dasanglu Pul, and witnessed participation from people across various sections of society.

The rally, which symbolized a protest against the imposition of Emergency by the then Congress regime, commenced from Indira Gandhi Park and concluded at Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre, where a major commemorative event was held.

The observance was graced by several high-ranking dignitaries including Governor Lt. General (Retd.) K.T. Parnaik, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Tesam Pongte, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, and Minister Dasanglu Pul herself. Other attendees included Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek, Mayor of IMC Tamme Phassang, Chief Secretary Manish Gupta, IMC corporators, senior bureaucrats, and members of the public.

Governor Parnaik inaugurated a special exhibition that visually chronicled the events and aftermath of the Emergency period. A documentary film screening further highlighted the significance and implications of the historical event, fostering a spirit of constitutional awareness among attendees.

Also present at the occasion were Capital Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu and Papum Pare DC Vishakha Yadav, both IAS officers, who observed the event alongside other officials.

The commemorative program emphasized the importance of constitutional values, civil liberties, and democratic safeguards — urging citizens never to forget the lessons of India’s darkest chapter in democratic history.
