Arunachal opens Mishmi Cultural Centre facilities to preserve tribal heritage
Itanagar witnessed a significant step in preserving the indigenous heritage of Arunachal Pradesh as Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, along with Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul, inaugurated the Traditional Mishmi Hut and a Hostel-cum-Guest House at the Mishmi Cultural Heritage Centre (MCHC) in Jollang on October 16.
Funded by the Department of Indigenous Affairs and executed by the state’s Water Resource Department, the new facilities aim to safeguard the rich cultural traditions of the Mishmi community, which represents five assembly constituencies. The centre will serve as a hub for cultural exchange while providing accommodation for students, patients, and visitors travelling from remote areas.
Deputy CM Mein praised the Mishmi community for their role in promoting the state’s indigenous identity. “The Mishmi have been torchbearers in preserving our heritage. These facilities will strengthen cultural engagement and ensure that our traditions continue to inspire future generations,” he said.
Mein also lauded the Mishmi Welfare Society, Itanagar, for its efforts in promoting community welfare and emphasised the government’s commitment to preserving tribal traditions through initiatives such as GI tagging of traditional products, One Tribe One Weave, and Indigenous Gurukuls.
The event was attended by MLA and Tourism Advisor Mopi Mihu, along with several other officials and dignitaries, highlighting the collaborative effort between government and community organisations in safeguarding Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural legacy.
