Arunachal Pradesh's Papum Pare police intercepted two vehicles at Sopo village on January 10, seizing approximately 140 kg of cannabis. Four individuals, identified as residents of Assam, were arrested in this connection.
The successful operation, based on reliable intelligence, led to the registration of Case No. 04/25 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at Doimukh Police Station.
Following detailed interrogation, police discovered that the cannabis had been sourced from Ankaling village, Kalaktang, West Kameng District.
A follow-up operation led by SDPO Radhe Obing, SI Tage Saa, ASI TD Goiba, ASI MA Nur, and other officers resulted in the seizure of an additional 510 kg of cannabis from Ankaling village, bringing the total haul to approximately 650 kg.
Among those arrested were the driver of the main vehicle, Lakshan Basumatary (30 years) from Assam, and the occupants of an escort vehicle identified as Babul Nath (44 years), Prabin Narzary (35 years), and Dhan Sharmah (34 years), all residents of Gohpur, Assam.
Efforts are underway to apprehend others involved in the operation. The case is under investigation by SI Nako Ribya, with the Papumpare Police, under the leadership of SP Taru Gusar, IPS, reaffirming their commitment to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety of the community.
