Arunachal: Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak inspects flood-hit Keyi Panyor, donates 11 months' salary for relief
Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak on Saturday, July 4 conducted an extensive inspection of flood and cloudburst-affected areas in Arunachal Pradesh's Keyi Panyor district and announced the donation of his 11 months' salary, amounting to over Rs 11 lakh, to support relief efforts for affected families.
The Member of Parliament travelled by road to Poosa via the Kimin Road to assess the extent of damage caused by the June 24 cloudburst and floods. During the visit, he gathered first-hand information on damaged infrastructure, relief operations and the functioning of relief camps in the district.
Tagak was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, IAS, Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung, Raga MLA Rotom Tebin, Nyapin MLA Tai Nikio and officials from the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO). The team visited relief camps, river-blocked areas, damaged residential properties and the Government Pre-Primary School at Poosa, which suffered extensive damage during the disaster.
Speaking to the media, Yachuli MLA Toko Tatung appreciated individuals and organisations that contributed to the MLA Relief Fund to assist more than 100 affected families from Poosa, Yazali, Potin and the NEEPCO Colony. He said relief materials had already been distributed in adequate quantities among the affected households and assured that every contribution received under the relief fund would be utilised transparently and accounted for.
Tatung also stated that despite being an opposition legislator from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), he had received full cooperation from the state government. He added that the Chief Minister and Union Ministers had assured all possible assistance for the rehabilitation and restoration efforts following the June 24 cloudburst in his constituency.
Addressing the media, Tai Tagak said he had donated his 11 months' salary to the MLA Relief Fund to support families who lost their homes and livelihoods in the floods. He appealed to people from all sections of society to extend assistance to the affected residents, urging them to rise above considerations of caste, religion and regional differences in the interest of humanitarian support.
The June 24 cloudburst triggered severe flooding in parts of Keyi Panyor district, damaging public infrastructure, educational institutions and residential areas, while displacing numerous families. Relief and restoration work is continuing under the supervision of the district administration.
