Arunachal: Smart vending zone unveiled in Itanagar’s Ganga Market with modern facilities

Arunachal Pradesh Urban Affairs Minister Balo Raja, along with Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, inaugurated the newly upgraded Smart Vending Zone at Ganga Market in Itanagar today, April 9, marking a significant step towards urban modernisation and vendor welfare.

The project, executed under the Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation, is part of the Smart Cities initiative and aims to enhance cleanliness, convenience, and sustainability in the city’s key marketplaces.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by local MLA Techi Kaso, Urban Affairs Commissioner Vivek Pandey, CEO of Itanagar Smart City Corporation Dahey Sangno, and Corporators from Ward No. 4 and Ward No. 10.

Minister Raja also distributed vending licences to vendors and formally handed them over to the respective ward corporators.

The project, which began on January 15, 2023, has been completed at a cost of Rs 1,379 lakh. It features modern prefabricated steel structures with a total built-up area of 1,030 square metres at Ganga Market and 261 square metres at Gandhi Market. Together, the two markets now accommodate 113 vendor seats.

Vendors will benefit from a host of modern amenities, including digital weighing machines, under-storage units, charging sockets, individual wall fans, efficient air ventilation systems, lighting, and RO water coolers. The entire complex is under 24x7 CCTV surveillance, ensuring security for both vendors and shoppers.

To guarantee uninterrupted services, the vending zone is equipped with a 60 KVA diesel generator, UPS power backup, and a rainwater harvesting system. Additional features include a goods lift, clean toilet facilities, office space for vendor committees, and a smart LED display board for information.

Promoting environmental sustainability, the project also includes a fully automatic composting machine and a 17,000-litre underground water tank.

The Smart Vending Zone is expected to significantly improve working conditions for local vendors while offering a more organized and pleasant shopping experience for the public.
