Arunachal State Cooperative Union organises marathon to mark 72nd All India Cooperative Week

The Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union (APSCU) organised a unity marathon in Itanagar today as part of the 72nd All India Cooperative Week, observed from 14–20 November. The 5-km run, which began at Gohpur Tinali and concluded at Indira Gandhi Park, saw enthusiastic participation from corporators, cooperative members and key stakeholders from across the state.

The event aimed to highlight the importance of unity among cooperative societies and reinforce efforts toward building a self-reliant and inclusive economy. Participants carried forward the message of strengthening grassroots cooperatives, improving resource-sharing, and promoting the spirit of collective growth.

Speaking to India Today, APSCU Chairman Nabam Tahi Nekhil said the marathon had been conceptualised to bring together cooperative societies from various districts and foster collaboration. He emphasised that despite limited institutional support, the union has been working tirelessly over the past two and a half years to raise awareness about the cooperative movement—particularly in villages where the concept is still new.

“As Chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union, I have tried my best to reach every region and spread awareness about cooperatives. Even without honorarium or government remuneration, we are committed to strengthening the cooperative sector, ensuring equitable distribution of resources and nurturing the spirit of collective prosperity envisioned under Atmanirbhar Bharat,” Nekhil said.

The marathon marks one of several initiatives undertaken by APSCU during the Cooperative Week to promote cooperation-driven development, capacity-building and leadership among primary societies
