Arunachal: Thunderstorm disrupts power supply in West Siang district

A violent thunderstorm swept through West Siang and Upper Siang districts today, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The severe weather event disrupted electricity supply, damaged several homes and cars, and caused widespread chaos.

The storm caused extensive damage to LT poles and streetlights, leaving many areas without power. Critical infrastructure, including the post office, the Divisional Forest Office (DFO), and New Market, suffered significant damage. Rural feeder lines were particularly affected, further complicating the restoration of electricity to the districts.

The felling of trees during the storm resulted in damage to several cars, while the heavy downpour and unpredictable winds tore off the roofs of numerous houses, exposing residents to the elements.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting moderate rain for the Northeast states over the next six days. An alert for heavy rain has been issued for various locations in Assam and Meghalaya until May 28. Arunachal Pradesh, including the affected Siang districts, is expected to experience rain from May 22 to May 27.
