Arunachal Tourism Department organises 10K mini marathon on World Tourism Day in Itanagar

The Department of Tourism, Arunachal Pradesh, in collaboration with the Bicchu Gang Running Club, organised a 10K mini marathon in Itanagar on the occasion of World Tourism Day, bringing together more than 300 young participants to promote fitness, community participation and local tourism.

The marathon was flagged off by Itanagar Capital Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu from the State Banquet Hall and culminated at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar. Participants from different age groups and fitness levels took part in the event, which aimed to encourage healthy lifestyles while highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s potential as a tourism destination.

In the men's category, Toko Tab secured the gold medal, Chanu Kamchang won silver, and Nabam Tojun claimed bronze. The fourth-place finisher, Bamang Kojum, received passes for the Orange Festival.
In the women's category, Nedi Ngu won gold, Boron Binggap secured silver, and Yabang Tal claimed bronze, while Meena Ragyor finished fourth.

Cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 4,000 were awarded to the first-, second- and third-place finishers in both the men's and women's categories. Medals were also presented to the first 100 finishers.

Speaking to India Today, Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu encouraged young people to make running a regular part of their daily routine rather than limiting it to organised events. He also urged them to stay away from drugs and alcohol and prioritise their health.

Director of Tourism Rujjum Rakshap said the department was enthusiastic about organising youth-focused initiatives such as the mini marathon. He highlighted the objective of promoting Arunachal Pradesh as a major destination for adventure and sports tourism.

Tourism department officials also emphasised the need to connect youth-oriented activities with new opportunities in tourism, showcasing the state's natural attractions while encouraging fitness and community engagement.

The event formed part of the World Tourism Day celebrations, combining sports and public participation with efforts to promote Arunachal Pradesh's tourism potential.
