Arunachal: VIP ward turns election hotspot as three women battle for IMC seat
With polling day for the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections fast approaching, political activity in the high-profile Ward No. 8 has intensified. The constituency, which includes key VIP zones such as the Chief Minister’s bungalow, ministerial residences, Nitivihar and several other prime locations, is witnessing a surge in campaign momentum.
On Monday, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso led a major rally along the VIP Road in Nitivihar in support of BJP’s corporator candidate Ngurang Yache. The rally drew significant public attention as party workers and supporters turned out in large numbers to boost the BJP candidate’s prospects.
BJP leader Ngurang Taka, husband of the candidate, appealed to residents to extend their support to Yache. He highlighted her prior experience as a councillor during the 2015–2020 tenure of the then Itanagar Municipal Council, emphasising her familiarity with public issues and administrative processes.
Speaking to the media, MLA Kaso expressed confidence in securing a decisive victory for Yache, predicting a clear majority for the BJP in Ward No. 8.
The contest in this crucial ward has become more competitive with two other women candidates also in the fray—renowned social activist Yajer Yajo from the NCP and Gocham Yabom representing the Congress party. Their entry has set the stage for a closely watched triangular contest in one of the city’s most influential wards.
