Hundreds gathered for a mass solidarity rally to protest the brutal murder of Prabash Doley, a daily wage worker from Assam's Dhemaji district who was killed in Itanagar on June 18.
The demonstration, organised by the Bharatiya Majdoor Sangh and the Arunachal Pradesh Construction and Worker Union, along with affiliated organisations, drew attention to the vulnerability of migrant workers seeking employment opportunities across state borders.
Doley, a member of the Mising community, had travelled from his native Dhemaji district to Itanagar in search of work. His body was discovered near an under-construction building close to a petrol pump in the Saturday Market area of Chimpu.
Police investigations revealed that Doley was allegedly attacked with a machete by 26-year-old Tai John, who operates a car wash service in the area. Authorities reported that the fatal assault followed a heated dispute over construction-related noise disturbances.
Speaking at the rally, Ringu Chapo, President of the Bharatiya Majdoor Sangh Arunachal Unit, condemned the killing alongside General Secretary Donik Talling. Tadung Yangfo, Treasurer of the Confederation of Service Associations of Arunachal Pradesh (COSAAP), also addressed the gathering, emphasising the need for better protection of migrant workers.
