A youth was arrested on Sunday after he reportedly displayed a protest flag during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
The incident occurred as the Prime Minister was addressing one of the largest gatherings ever witnessed in the state capital, where thousands of people from across Arunachal had assembled to hear his speech.
According to initial reports, the youth waved a protest flag in the midst of the event, drawing the attention of security personnel. He was immediately detained and later taken into custody for questioning. Authorities are yet to disclose the identity of the youth or the exact motive behind his actions.
The rally had otherwise remained peaceful, with the Prime Minister addressing developmental issues, inaugurating and laying the foundation of several key projects worth over Rs 5,000 crore, including hydropower initiatives in Shi Yomi district and a convention centre in Tawang. Modi also reiterated his government’s commitment to the Northeast, calling Arunachal the "land of the rising sun" and stating that the region holds a special place in his heart.

The arrest has sparked conversations among locals, with some calling it an isolated incident while others suggested it reflects undercurrents of dissatisfaction despite the state government’s gratitude towards the Prime Minister’s developmental focus.
