Arunachal youth groups stage bike rally over NH-415 project flaws
Naharlagun saw a large-scale bike rally on September 3 as the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organisation (AAPYO) and the Bazar Welfare Society protested against what they allege is sub-standard work on the NH-415 Package-B project, stretching from Papu Nallah to Nirjuli.
The protesters demanded the dismantling of 18 pillars and 13 girders constructed with poor-quality materials, citing safety risks. They also sought accountability through the suspension of officials linked to the irregularities and called for advanced quality testing of every pier.
Apart from structural concerns, the groups pressed for proper drainage systems, safe flyovers, pedestrian footpaths, and transparency in project expenditure. Another key demand was compensation for Naharlagun traders, who they say have suffered financial losses due to the prolonged delays in highway construction.
The organisations also urged the state government to adopt a tripartite integrity pact for all projects above Rs 10 crore, aligning with Central Vigilance Commission guidelines.
AAPYO leaders said the rally was a reminder of the government’s commitments to “good governance, zero tolerance, and transparency” and warned that continued neglect of the NH-415 project would not be tolerated by the people.
