Arunachal: Youths restore partially collapsed Siji River bridge, reconnect Likabali's foothill villages

A partially collapsed iron bridge over the Siji River near KN Resort in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Siang district was restored through a community-led effort on Monday, August 3, re-establishing road connectivity between the foothill villages of Lika, Bali and Nilok and Likabali town.

The bridge, considered a vital lifeline for the three villages, had partially collapsed, disrupting movement between the LBN villages and the nearby town. Following the incident, local youths, residents and community leaders joined hands with the district administration to carry out emergency repair work.

The restoration work made the bridge motorable for light motor vehicles (LMVs), bringing much-needed relief to residents who depend on the route for daily commuting and access to essential services.

According to those involved in the initiative, the repair work was made possible through the collective efforts of volunteers, village leaders and members of the local community, many of whom also extended financial support.

The organisers acknowledged the contributions of village leaders Moge Taipodia, Senri Taipodia, Bachi Taipodia and Komter Gibi Tao for coordinating the restoration work and mobilising community participation.

The restoration effort also received timely financial assistance from Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor through Assistant Engineer Doli of the Public Works Department (PWD), helping expedite the emergency repairs.

The successful restoration of the bridge was widely hailed as an example of community solidarity, with residents and volunteers working together to quickly restore connectivity to one of the region's key transport links.

Authorities said the repaired bridge is now open to light motor vehicles, while further measures may be taken to ensure its long-term safety and stability.
