Arunachal's border town Parsi Parlo submerged as Kumey River breaches danger level, road to district HQ cut off
Arunachal Pradesh's remote border town of Parsi Parlo in Kurung Kumey district, near the Indo-China border, has been inundated by massive flooding following incessant monsoon rains, with the Kumey River flowing above the danger level and severing the town's road connectivity.
Continuous heavy rainfall over the past several days has triggered widespread flooding across the district, submerging large parts of Parsi Parlo and leaving residents grappling with rising water levels and extensive damage to infrastructure.
According to local authorities, the Kumey River has crossed the danger mark, overflowing its banks and inundating the border town. Government buildings, including the Inspection Bungalow, schools and several private residences, have been flooded, while roads across multiple colonies and villages remain completely underwater, resembling flowing rivers.
The relentless rain has also triggered landslides and soil erosion, causing extensive damage to road infrastructure. Several valley bridges have been washed away, cutting off vital transport links.
Authorities said the only road connecting Parsi Parlo with the district headquarters at Koloriang has been temporarily blocked, disrupting the movement of people, emergency services and essential supplies.
Officials have issued safety advisories urging residents to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall continues across the region. The situation is being closely monitored, with concerns that further rain could aggravate flooding and trigger additional landslides in the mountainous district.
Kurung Kumey is among the worst-hit districts in the latest spell of monsoon rains that have affected several parts of Arunachal Pradesh, causing floods, landslides and widespread disruption to road connectivity.
