Arunachal's Tawang unites in Tiranga Yatra to honour armed forces, condemn terrorism

Thousands gathered in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, today for a massive Tiranga Yatra, marching from the Giant Buddha statue to the Tawang War Memorial in a strong message of solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces.

The event, led by NCC cadets from Higher Secondary School, Jang, brought together monks, nuns, students, political party members, and civilians in a rare show of collective support for national security and unity.

A standout moment of the march was the cadets’ stirring band performance that set the tone for a solemn yet spirited tribute. The event concluded at the Tawang War Memorial, where emotional patriotic performances were delivered, including a dance by students of Manjushree Vidyapeeth and songs by local artists Vishal and Rinchin Zomba.

Addressing the gathering, Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering praised the armed forces for their courage and sacrifice, making special mention of those who lost their lives in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He also commended the Indian military’s firm response to terrorism, highlighting what he called “decisive and fitting action.”

Tsering thanked all political parties for setting aside differences to unite for the national cause. He also extended special appreciation to the Abbot of Sera Je Jamyang Choekorling Monastery, Dhobley Rinpoche, along with monks and nuns from surrounding monasteries for their visible support.

“This Tiranga Yatra is more than a symbolic gesture. It reflects our emotional bond with the armed forces and reaffirms our shared responsibility in safeguarding the nation,” he said. He emphasised the significance of civil-military cooperation in the region, calling it a model for the country.

In a gesture of respect, Tsering honoured senior military officials by presenting them with traditional swords and ceremonial scarves, underlining Tawang’s enduring connection with the armed forces.
