Assam-Arunachal border dispute resurfaces in Lower Siang, firing reported

A fresh border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has triggered tension in Hime village under Kangku circle of Lower Siang district after a group of Mishing people from Assam allegedly began fencing work on land claimed to be within Arunachal Pradesh.

According to local accounts, the development prompted the gaon bura (village head) of Hime to intervene and question the fencing activity, asserting that the land falls within Arunachal Pradesh.

The situation reportedly escalated when the Mishing group allegedly took the gaon bura into their custody and transported him to Assam. Villagers subsequently attempted to bring him back but were unable to secure his release.

The confrontation later turned violent, with firing reported in the area. One person was injured in the incident, according to local sources.
