BJP headed for clean sweep in Lower Siang panchayat polls: Arunachal MLA Kardo Nyigyor
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised for a comprehensive victory in the Lower Siang district panchayat elections, according to Kardo Nyigyor, MLA from the Likabali Assembly constituency and Deputy Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
Speaking to India Today, Nyigyor expressed confidence that the saffron party would emerge as the clear winner across all tiers of the panchayat polls in Lower Siang, which borders Assam. He stated that the district has seven Zilla Parishad seats, of which two BJP candidates have already been elected unopposed.
Nyigyor further noted that in the same panchayat segment, all Gram Panchayat seats have been won uncontested, except in the Kangku and Likabali circles, indicating strong grassroots support for the BJP.
Highlighting the party’s growing popularity, Nyigyor said the BJP has been gaining the trust of the people across Arunachal Pradesh due to sustained development initiatives and governance-focused policies. “The development work carried out by the BJP government has strengthened people’s confidence in the party,” he added.
Polling for panchayat and municipal corporation elections across Arunachal Pradesh is scheduled for tomorrow. A total of 245 Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) seats are at stake statewide, with 59 seats already decided uncontested and 186 seats heading for polls, involving 439 candidates.
In the urban local body elections, the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) has 20 seats, of which four have been elected uncontested, while 16 seats are being contested by 39 candidates. Meanwhile, the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) has eight seats, all of which are being contested by 21 candidates.
