On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, Arunachal Pradesh witnessed a spirited blood donation drive at the Legislative Assembly premises, with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein hailing the act of blood donation as a “meritorious and compassionate service to humanity.” The mega drive was jointly organised by the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Sewa Bharati, and Arunachal Life Saving Foundation.
Leading by example, paramilitary personnel, alongside legislators, government officials, medical professionals, students, and volunteers, came forward to donate blood. The event aimed to raise awareness and encourage voluntary blood donation under this year’s global theme: “20 years of celebrating giving: Thank you, blood donors.”
Addressing the gathering, Deputy CM Mein said, “In Buddhism, the act of giving blood is regarded as a noble and selfless deed. We are grateful for the overwhelming response, particularly from medical professionals like Dr. Ramesh Jeke, our political fraternity, and the brave paramilitary forces, who all embody the spirit of compassion and altruism.”
Speaker Tesam Pongte and Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor were among the dignitaries present at the celebration, which saw participation from a wide cross-section of public representatives and Assembly staff. Speaker Pongte urged all eligible individuals to come forward and join this life-saving mission. “Each unit of blood can save multiple lives, and your donation reinforces the values of empathy and humanitarianism,” he emphasized.
Pongte also announced that a two-month celebration marking the Golden Jubilee of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly would include various community-centric activities. “Just like today’s blood donation drive, several such socially beneficial initiatives will be held to commemorate this historic milestone,” he added.
