As Arunachal Pradesh prepares for the much-anticipated inauguration of the Itanagar Permanent Bench of the Gauhati High Court on August 10, Law & Sports Minister Kento Jini has lauded the new building as “one of the best High Court structures in the country.” The grand inauguration will be graced by Chief Justice of India, along with Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and 20 High Court judges.
Security has been heightened in Naharlagun, part of the twin capital city, with road restrictions imposed ahead of the VVIP visit.
Minister Kento Jini, who is also a seasoned advocate, personally conducted a preliminary inspection of the newly constructed, technologically advanced judicial complex. The upcoming inauguration, he said, marks a “historic milestone” in Arunachal Pradesh’s legal and administrative progress.
“The new permanent bench will not only improve access to justice but also bring transparency, efficiency, and public trust into the legal system. It aligns with the vision of Chief Minister Pema Khandu to ensure robust institutional infrastructure in the state,” Jini stated.
Currently, Arunachal Pradesh falls under the jurisdiction of the Gauhati High Court, with the Itanagar bench handling cases from the state. While it does not have a separate High Court of its own, Jini expressed hope that with infrastructural and logistical improvements over the next four to five years, the state could eventually be home to an independent High Court.
Jini reiterated his strong support for the Siang Multipurpose Hydro Power Project, advocating for its early construction. He pointed to the ₹350 crore relief and rehabilitation package aimed at supporting affected communities. He emphasized that this project not only unlocks Arunachal’s hydro potential but also acts as a strategic counter to China's mega dam efforts across the border.
On the delay in stadium and sports infrastructure development, Jini confirmed that contractors who failed to deliver have voluntarily surrendered their contracts. The government is now preparing to retender the works to more reliable contractors.
“Arunachal already ranks second in sports achievements after Manipur, but we’re determined to take the lead soon,” said the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs.
Jini also spoke about the enthusiastic implementation of the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan across Arunachal, especially in the Siang belt, to promote patriotism.
Touching on international matters, he called for a balanced “Look East” policy, urging harmonious relations with China and other South Asian nations to boost regional trade and counterbalance the 50% U.S. tariff policy on Indian exports.
