A voluntary blood donation camp was organised at the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly to commemorate the 89th birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on July 6. The event saw significant participation from local youth, paramilitary forces including NDRF and CRPF, and state police personnel.
Speaker Tesam Pongte, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, and former BJP President Tai Tagak attended the camp, which successfully collected 50 units of blood. These donations will be distributed to state hospital blood banks.
The Arunachal Life Saving Foundation, an NGO led by Chairman Ramesh Jeke, spearheaded the initiative. Jeke, speaking to India Today NE, revealed his two-decade-long involvement in organising such camps since 2017. He emphasised, "A single blood donation can save up to three lives, and a healthy individual can donate blood every three months."
Speaker Pongte stressed the importance of raising awareness about blood donation. He described the Dalai Lama's birthday as an auspicious occasion, highlighting the spiritual leader's lifelong commitment to serving society.
