Itanagar DC clarifies no highway campaign permissions granted ahead of polls

Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu has categorically denied authorising any political parties to campaign on highways and roads in the capital region, stating that no magistrate holds the authority to issue such permissions.

Speaking on December 11, Babu addressed concerns about electoral regulations as preparations intensify for the panchayat and civic body elections scheduled for December 15. The DC also dismissed allegations of bogus voters being enrolled in the electoral list.

The District Municipal Election Officer for the Itanagar Capital Region convened a crucial meeting at the DC office in Indira Gandhi Park, bringing together senior police officials, including the SPs of Itanagar and Naharlagun, nodal officers for transport and media, and the designated election observer.

The gathering focused on finalising logistical arrangements for polling day, with particular emphasis on vehicle deployment and security force positioning to ensure seamless conduct of the Municipal Election 2025.

The meeting comes as authorities work to guarantee free and fair polling across the capital region, with heightened vigilance on campaign activities and voter list integrity remaining top priorities for election officials.
