Itanagar Police arrest two J&K suspects in espionage case linked to Pakistan
In a major breakthrough in a suspected espionage network operating in Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar Police have arrested two individuals from Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district for allegedly spying and collecting sensitive information for handlers based in Pakistan.
Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Chukhu Apa confirmed that the two suspects were apprehended on December 18 and subsequently brought to Arunachal Pradesh for further investigation. With these arrests, the total number of accused held in the case has risen to five.
According to police sources, the suspects were actively gathering sensitive intelligence from multiple locations across Arunachal Pradesh, a strategically important border state, and transmitting the information to contacts across the border. The nature of the information collected and the locations targeted are being treated as highly sensitive due to security considerations.
Following the arrests, security agencies have stepped up vigilance across the state, particularly in border and sensitive areas. Police are also probing the wider network involved, including the suspects’ local contacts, communication channels and possible financial links.
Officials said further arrests are not being ruled out as the investigation progresses. The case has raised serious security concerns, prompting close coordination between state police, central intelligence agencies and other security forces operating in the region.
