Itanagar police direct bars, pubs to adhere to 11 pm shutter down, 12 am bar closure rule

The Capital administration has intensified enforcement of regulations governing bars, pubs, nightclubs, and resorts operating in the Capital Region of Arunachal Pradesh, mandating strict adherence to prescribed closing timings amid growing concerns over public safety and law and order.

A coordination meeting with owners and representatives of nightlife establishments was held at the SDPO office in Itanagar prior to a press briefing on the issue. The meeting and briefing were conducted by Chera Saban under the direction of Jummar Basar and under the supervision of Tumme Amo.

Officials stated that the discussion centred on the recent order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Capital Itanagar in response to increasing incidents of assault, physical altercations, and road accidents linked to drunken driving in the region.

During the meeting, operators of bars, pubs, nightclubs, and resorts were instructed to ensure shutters are down by 11:00 PM and complete closure is implemented by 12:00 AM. Authorities also directed establishments to prominently display their opening and closing timings for public visibility.

In addition, operators were instructed to conduct mandatory identity verification to prevent entry of individuals below 21 years of age and to maintain proper visitor registers as part of compliance measures.

Police officials warned that any violation of the directives would invite strict penal action, including suspension of licenses under the Arunachal Pradesh Excise Rules, 1994.
