Kiren Rijiju lauds Galo community for preserving Arunachal's Mopin festival, traditions

Union Minister and Member of Parliament from Arunachal West, Kiren Rijiju, attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Central Mopin Festival, praising the Galo community for preserving their rich cultural heritage and traditions.

 

Despite adverse weather conditions, Rijiju reached Itanagar to take part in the celebrations marking 50 years of the iconic festival.

 

Mopin, one of the most prominent agricultural festivals of Arunachal Pradesh, is celebrated by the Galo community across districts including West Siang, Leparada, Lower Siang, East Siang, and Upper Subansiri. The festival symbolises gratitude for a good harvest and prayers for peace and prosperity.

 

Extending his greetings, Rijiju said, “Mopin is one of the most cherished and colourful festivals of Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Galo tribe.” He emphasised that such festivals play a crucial role in preserving traditional values and strengthening community identity.

 

Chairman of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee, Dr Gumjum Haider, also urged people to continue safeguarding their cultural heritage for future generations.

 

The event witnessed vibrant participation, reflecting the enduring spirit and unity of the Galo community.
