Nyishi and Mising communities renew centuries-old bond with historic friendship treaty

In a landmark moment of cultural reconciliation and unity, the Nyishi community of Arunachal Pradesh and the Mising community of Assam have signed a historic ‘Treaty of Friendship’, reaffirming their shared ancestry and deep-rooted ties.

The treaty, signed between the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) and the Mising Ba:Ne Kebang (MBK), marks the revival of ancient relations between the two indigenous groups, both of whom trace their lineage to the common ancestor Abo Tani.

The symbolic pact underscores the communities’ commitment to preserving their historical kinship while fostering greater cooperation in social, cultural, and developmental spheres. It also aims to strengthen people-to-people relations across state boundaries through regular cultural exchanges and dialogue.

Leaders from both communities described the event as a reaffirmation of unity and shared heritage, stating that the renewed bond would serve as a model for harmony among Northeast India’s diverse ethnic groups.

Both sides vowed to work together to preserve traditional values, promote linguistic and cultural understanding, and ensure that the legacy of their ancestral connection continues to inspire future generations.
