In Arunachal Pradesh, Pasang Dorjee Sona, former Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, has assumed office as the state's new Education, Tourism, and Rural Works Department (RWD) Minister. Amidst a warm reception by officials at the Civil Secretariat in Itanagar, Sona outlined ambitious plans to prioritize education reform and promote sustainable tourism across the state.
Sona, who secured a fourth consecutive term as MLA from the 33rd Mechukha (ST) Assembly Constituency in Shi Yomi district, pledged to address existing challenges within the education sector. Speaking to India Today, he acknowledged the shortcomings and expressed his commitment to collaborate with stakeholders and department officials to introduce comprehensive reforms. "Education is paramount in transforming lives, especially of our students. I aim to engage with all concerned parties to bring about meaningful changes," Sona affirmed.
Highlighting the potential of Arunachal Pradesh's tourism sector, Sona emphasized the need for sustainable growth. "Our state boasts diverse landscapes—from plains to snow-capped mountains—along with a rich cultural heritage. My focus will be on promoting tourism responsibly, ensuring minimal environmental impact while maximizing economic benefits," he stated.
Additionally, Sona addressed the challenges within the Rural Works Department, particularly the completion of pending PMGSY roads aimed at connecting remote villages. "There are hundreds of PMGSY roads awaiting completion. I will review progress and strategize to expedite these vital infrastructure projects," he asserted.
With portfolios including Parliamentary Affairs and Libraries alongside his ministerial responsibilities, Sona's tenure is poised to steer Arunachal Pradesh towards comprehensive development.
