ST Bachao Andolan Committee demands resignation of Arunachal CM Pema Khandu, calls 36-hour bandh
ST Bachao Andolan Committee has demanded the resignation of Pema Khandu and Principal Secretary Kaling Tayeng over issues related to Inner Line Permit (ILP) digitalisation and protection of Scheduled Tribe rights in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the committee, the state government has failed to fulfil earlier demands submitted regarding the digitalisation of the ILP system and safeguards for indigenous tribal communities of the state.
As part of its protest, the committee called for a 36-hour bandh beginning May 14, 2026, and warned of intensifying democratic movements if its demands remain unaddressed.
The bandh call has affected normal activities in Itanagar, where the protest is being closely monitored by authorities.
Meanwhile, the district administration has declared the proposed bandh illegal and appealed to the public to maintain peace and normalcy.
