Thousands of youths and students rally in Arunachal's Itanagar in support of Sonam Wangchuk
Thousands of youths and students participated in a peaceful mass rally and one-day symbolic fast in Itanagar on July 20 in solidarity with climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his ongoing hunger strike for Ladakh’s constitutional rights.
The programme was organised by the student group Youth for Change. Participants gathered at Akashdeep Complex before marching to the Tennis Court at IG Park, where they expressed support for Wangchuk’s advocacy and ongoing protest.
The rally began at around 11 am, with participants raising slogans against the reported forceful shifting of Sonam Wangchuk to a hospital and alleged pressure on him to end his fast.
Organisers said the demonstration was conducted peacefully and aimed at expressing solidarity with Wangchuk’s demand for constitutional safeguards and protection of Ladakh’s rights.
