Udit Narayan lights up Anini’s Reh Festival, showcases Arunachal’s cultural and scenic grandeur
The remote Himalayan town of Anini in Arunachal Pradesh came alive in a grand celebration of culture, music and tradition as legendary Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan, accompanied by his son Aditya Narayan and wife, enthralled thousands during the Reh Festival of the Idu Mishmi community. The star-studded cultural night was attended by the Chief Minister and other senior dignitaries, drawing unprecedented attention to Dibang Valley’s rich heritage and breathtaking natural beauty.
Expressing his admiration for the region, Udit Narayan described Arunachal Pradesh as “extremely beautiful” and praised the warmth and humility of the people of Anini. “The love showered by the natives during the Reh Festival of the Idu Mishmis is truly overwhelming,” the veteran singer said, calling the experience deeply memorable.
Speaking to India Today, Aditya Narayan said this was his second visit to the state, following his performance at the Tawang Festival in 2018. He termed Anini “one of the most beautiful places” he has ever visited and highlighted the unmatched hospitality of its people.
“I feel proud that Arunachal Pradesh is a part of India. Performing at the Reh Festival with my father is a great honour,” Aditya said.
He also pointed out that despite its stunning landscapes, Arunachal Pradesh remains underrepresented on the global tourism map. “There is still limited information about the state’s extraordinary locations reaching the outside world. Things are opening up now, and I urge tourists to choose Arunachal’s hill stations as their holiday destination,” he added.
Local MLA Mope Mihu, speaking to India Today, said the Reh Festival was celebrated on an unprecedented scale this year. He credited the participation of Udit Narayan and his family for elevating the festival’s profile nationally.
“Their presence has brought immense recognition to Anini and Dibang Valley. We are grateful to them,” Mihu said.
Highlighting infrastructure development in the strategically important district bordering China, the MLA said Dibang Valley has witnessed rapid progress over the past six years. He noted that the 73-km Greenfield Road Project is a crucial initiative, with June 2026 set as the completion deadline following a recent review meeting involving the Chief Secretary and NHIDCL officials. While acknowledging delays in bridge construction, Mihu said assurances were received from the Chief Minister after a Cabinet meeting, raising hopes of faster progress.
“Today, Anini is on the global map, largely due to social media,” he added.
Renowned Arunachali singer Jeli Kayi also praised Anini’s pristine beauty and called upon tourists from across the world to visit the region. She urged travellers to experience the untouched natural landscapes, snow-capped mountains and vibrant indigenous culture that define Dibang Valley.
The grand celebration of the Reh Festival has not only reinforced the cultural identity of the Idu Mishmi community but has also positioned Anini as an emerging cultural and tourism destination in India’s far northeast.
