Itanagar:  The Education Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Taba Tedir on Wednesday announced that the classes for X and XII would begin from November 16 -- after 8 long months of lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While addressing a press meet on November 4, the minister stated that the government has approved the commencement of classes for X and XII standards keeping in mind the CBSE board examination which is supposed to be held around March 2021.

He also informed that the government will evaluate the COVID-19 situation in the state and then take a decision for the opening of class IX and class XI by the end of the year.

However, Class I to VIII and hotels, residential schools, and coaching institutions will remain closed until further notice.

He also disclosed that the matter was placed in the cabinet on Tuesday, following which the Arunachal government gave the green signal to reopen schools.

It was further informed by the minister that the consent of the parents and the school management were taken into consideration before making the decision.

Tedir admitted that the online classes have not been much of a help in the state as many schools in the rural areas do not have proper internet connectivity.

Education Secretary Niharika Rai informed that the SOP would be circulated to the schools specifying the role of deputy commissioners, deputy directors of school education, and principals.

The secretary said that the classes would start by strictly maintaining the SOP, including use of hand sanitizers, face masks, and maintaining a physical distance.

Rai informed that the colleges would follow the Rajiv Gandhi University’s academic plan.
