Algapur independent candidate served Showcause for election code violation

HAILAKANDI: A show cause notice for violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been served on an Independent candidate in Hailakandi election district today.

The show cause notice to this effect was issued by the district development commissioner cum officer-in-charge of MCC and EEM Cell, Ranajeet Kumar Laskar yesterday on Independent candidate Badrul Islam Barbhuiya from 8 Algapur LAC for violating MCC norms.

Barbhuiya while on his way to the deputy commissioner's office to file nomination yesterday organised a political rally in which a large number of vehicles were taken out near Janeki Bazar area under 8 Algapur LAC without obtaining prior permission from the appropriate authorities thus grossly violating the MCC which has been in effect since February 26.

According to reports, it has been reported that banners were on display, pamphlets distributed and loud loudspeakers used in the rally.

While serving the show cause on Barbhuiya, the election official questioned why no legal action should be taken against him for violating MCC guidelines as required by law.
