Thiruvananthapuram, March 25, 2020:

At a time when the entire country has shut itself indoors keeping in view the strict curfew regulations in view of the lockdown imposed by the Centre to curtail the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19, at least 1000 people from Assam are stranded in Kerala amid the corona lockdown.

These people from Assam, who had gone to the South Indian state to eke out a living, have now found themselves thrust into the limelight in the middle of the worst health crisis that the modern world has ever known.

According to Inside Northeast sources, the locals are stuck in areas of Kerala such as Malapram, Pokkootur, and Manjari Road. Now, the Assamese people who are stuck in the South Indian State have appealed the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to take a special initiative to rescue them.

"We are residents of Assam and we have come to Kerala for work. Work has been stopped in Kerala because of the coronavirus, but we are unable to reach home because trains have been stopped. We appeal the CM to take us home. Our mothers fathers and children are crying at home, but we are unable to go home because train services have been halted. says Jagadip, one of the men, breaking into tears while relaying the message. The Assam man, who says that he hails from the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (or BTAD), has also appealed the Chief, Hagrama Mohilary, to come to the rescue of the people from the region who are stranded in Kerala. "We are from the BTAD. We want a train in the month of April so that we can return home."

Another man says that he was woorking in a quarry, and suddenly, work has been closed. "All bus trains and trains are closed. Does not go to Assam", he says, dejectedly.

Yet another man, Ratin Barman, says that the workers are from the BTAD area and are now having trouble finding morsels to eat amid the lockdown.
