In Karimganj, there resides a person who will not allow age to become a deterrent as he gets ready to cast his vote in Karimganj Contituency of Assam. The individual, Mahamud Ali, was a freedom fighter. His age? One hundred and sixteen years!
Ali has confirmed that he will head out to the polling booth when the election is conducted on April 18. Moreover, the supercentenarian has encouraged young voters to come out and make their voices heard.
Ali has also said that many things are yet to change, but he credits democracy for changing society for the better and eradicating hunger and poverty to a certain extent.
The elections are a carnival where people from all backgrounds come together to cast their vote so that they have a say in who governs them. Age, caste, religion or community ceases to matter for a while as every vote has the same value.
Thus, during this carnival of democracy, while the fate of the entire country is being written by the collective voices of the people, it is indeed heartening to see people exercise their right.
Karimganj will head to the polls during the second phase of polling on 18 April.
