The 12-hour Barak Bandh called by HPC Paper Mills Revival Action Committee (HPCPMRAC) on Thursday paralyses Barak Valley.
Manabendra Chakraborty, Chief Convener of the Committee while addressing the media said that both Centre and State government has assured that the two paper mills of Assam would be revived soon. But due to the delay from the government’s part, Chakraborty said that the government is not at all sincere and has no will to revive the two mills.
Chakraborty also said about the miserable living conditions of the employees of the mill. The Committee is left with no other option but to call a bandh.
The committee members also expressed their grief that “just for an amount of Rs.90 lakh, the employees of the mill were thrown”.
They further added that during ‘Namami Barak’, Assam’s Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal gave assurance that he would take immediate action to revive the mill but till now no steps have been taken.
