In a joint operation, the Dhubri and South Salmara-Mankachar Police apprehended 12 cattle smugglers on Wednesday.
Police also recovered 13 cattle and some iron fence cutting tools from their possession.
Multiple pre-dawn raids were conducted at various locations of both the districts simultaneously by the police against notorious smugglers and their associates.
Altogether eight smugglers were arrested from Mankachar and four smugglers were arrested from Dhubri district.
The arrested cattle smugglers are – Nuruddin of Kathaidi village Part I in Bilasipara, Najmat Ali of Balajan Part I of Gauripur, Samsul Haque of Madhusoulmari Part II of Gauripur, Akhirul of Patharia village of South Salmara-Mankachar district, Abdul Azad, Habejuddin, Sahidur, Mizanur Rahman, Chand Miah of Charergaon village in Mankachar,Akidul Mondal of Kokradanga in South Salmara, Hasem Ali of Fulerchar Part II under South Salmara PS and Nur Alam Skinny of Boraikandi under South Salmara police station.
