14 ‘infiltrators’ apprehended in Assam, action initiated: Himanta

Assam Police have apprehended 14 alleged infiltrators, and appropriate action has been initiated against them, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on July 31.

The chief minister, however, did not provide details regarding the identities of those apprehended, the locations of the operations or the nature of the action taken.

“Each day, while infiltrators try to execute their nefarious designs in Assam, we keep on thwarting their plans and taking action against them,” Sarma said in a post on X.

“Fourteen such infiltrators have been apprehended by Assam Police, and appropriate action has been taken against them. Assam remains alert,” he added.

The latest announcement comes amid the Assam government’s continued drive against illegal immigration and suspected foreign nationals.

The state government had recently informed the Assam Assembly that nearly 2,100 illegal foreigners had been deported, expelled or sent back from the state over the past 10 years.

Of the total, 2,023 were from Bangladesh, according to information provided by the government.
