The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is all set to deploy 15 electric buses in the city under the Government's 'FAME' (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles) scheme.
Confirming this, Anand Prakash Tiwari, MD has said that the buses will be operational within this month, and they will be emission free.
The first electric bus is likely to ply in the city on the Kamakhya temple route. The buses will be deployed phase-wise in all the routes to provide emission-free communication in the city and charging stations will be installed at Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT).
Tiwari had announced that the Government would launch 15 electric buses in 2018 itself.
Speaking at a conclave on electric mobility at Assam Administrative Staff College on August 31, 2018, the managing director of Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC), Anand Prakash Tiwari, had informed that 15 electric buses would run across Guwahati.
He said although 15 such buses would ply initially, the department has plans to include 30 more buses in the second phase under a policy called ‘FAME’. He said the tendering process for procurement of 400 electric buses on gross contract model would be floated.
