The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) rescued 17 children from various stations and trains in the past fortnight. The RPF also rescued 39 children and teenagers from traffickers till August this year.
“Our force has been working hard to foil child trafficking and this alert led to the rescue of minors and the arrest of kidnappers and traffickers. Usually, the children are lured with offers of jobs in the mainland India,” an NFR spokesman said.
According to official records, 60 children and teenagers were rescued from stations and trains in 2016. It plummeted substantially last year when only 16 children were rescued. The RPF nabbed 44 traffickers since 2016 and handed them over to the police.
