A major road accident that took place at the Samguri area in Assam’s Nagaon district on Wednesday morning killed a school students and injured three other persons.
A speeding Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) bus bearing registration number AS-20-1975 rammed the two while they were going to school riding on their bicycles. The deceased girls have been identified as Rabija Khatun and other Farida Khatun was seriously injured. Both hailed from Amoni area of Nagaon district. Rabija died on spot, while Farida was rushed to the hospital. The bus also hit a motorcycle.
As per reports, the driver, in trying to stop himself from hitting a speeding motorcycle, lost control of the vehicle due to the pathetic road conditions. Following this tragedy, the locals blocked National Highway 37 to protest the girls' death.
Meanwhile, State Agriculture Minister, Atul Bora along with his convoy, who were on their way to Golaghat stopped at the site of incident in Samguri took stock of the incident and assured to take steps to initiate an investigation.
