In a sensation incident, a 23-year-old woman from Mizoram carrying Rs 20 lakh was allegedly looted by three police personnel in Guwahati on Thursday evening at around 6:40 pm.
The incident was reported at the Dispur Police Station at around 8:00 pm by the woman. Following this, the Dispur police on Friday arrested two police personnel of the Hatigaon Police Station and one Home Guard in relation to the case.
The three accused have been identified as Sub-Inspectors (SI) Hiranya Pathari, one Probationer SI Pranjal Bora of Hatigaon Police Station and one Home Guard from Dispur PS Bipul Hazarika. They were arrested today based on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar confirmed the incident and said, “The woman was accompanied by her family along with a local guide name Prakash Sonar who stays in Kohima was moving in a vehicle with the huge sum of money. While on their way, the vehicle was stopped by these police personnel in front of Hotel Taj. They conducted a checking during which they came across the Rs 20 lakh and they framed that they will undergo investigation and all of them got away with the money following which the Mizo family lodged the complaint in the police station.”
He added that investigation has been launched into the case, “We have recovered the Rs. 20 lakh from them along with the Innova car that was used in the crime. The mastermind of the whole incident, Prakash Sonar conducted this loot along with those police officials have been arrested. All the people involved in the incident have been arrested while the driver is absconding.”
The Commissioner of Police also mentioned that since it is a criminal case, action will be taken as per the laws applicable to any criminals.
